Douglas Francis teaches Canadian history at the University of Calgary. He has published Frank H. Underhill: Intellectual Provocateur (University of Toronto Press, 1986), which won the J.W. Dafoe Book Prize (1986) for the best book published on a subject of national and international importance, and Images of the West: Changing Perceptions of the Prairies, 1690-1960 (Western Producer Prairie Books, 1989), which was awarded a Regional Award of Merit from the Association for Canadian Studies. Mr. Francis co-authored a two-volume history of Canada: Origins: Canadian History to 1867 and Destinies: Canadian History since 1867, 6th ed (Nelson, 2008), and a one-volume history, Journeys: A History of Canada (Nelson Thomson Learning, 2005). In addition to writing, he has edited a number of books (with Donald B. Smith) including Readings in Canadian History: Pre-Confederation and Readings in Canadian History: Post-Confederation, 7th editions (Nelson Thomson Learning, 2006) He has published numerous articles in Canadian intellectual and Western Canadian history. He was Visiting Professor of Canadian Studies in Japan from 1991 to 1993, and in Dresden, Germany in 2005. Richard Jones was Professor of Canadian History at Universite Laval from 1970 to 2000. He is particularly interested in French-English relations, issues relating to language and immigration. Donald Smith was born in Toronto in l946 and raised in Oakville, Ontario. He prepared both his B.A. and his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto and his M.A. at the Universite Laval in Quebec City. In l974 he began teaching Canadian history at the University of Calgary. Professor Smith's main research field is Native History, an area in which he has published three biographies: Long Land, The True Story of an Imposter (l982): Sacred Feathers, The Reverend Peter Jones (Kahkewaquonaby) and The Mississauga Indians (1987), and From The Land of Shadows, the Making of Grey Owl (l990). Currently he is writing a history of twentieth century Calgary. Dr. Wardhaugh is a political and regional historian of late nineteenth- and twentieth-century Canada whose research interests include federalism, the Prairie West, rural/small town, and the Metis. Dr. Wardhaugh teaches courses on all aspects of Canadian history. He was nominated for the Award of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in 2004 and 2005, and won the award in 2008.
