Svetlana Chmakova was born and lived in Russia until she was sixteen years old, when she and her family moved to Canada. With works like Dramacon, Nightschool, the manga adaptation of James Patterson's Witch & Wizard, and the webcomic Chasing Rainbows, she swiftly established a reputation for herself. She earned a three-year Classical Animation Diploma from Sheridan College. Awkward, her most recent work for middle grade readers, was a runaway critical hit and was selected one of YALSA's Top Ten Outstanding Graphic Novels for Teens in 2016!
