He has been studying all aspects of the War ever since. In addition to authoring his own books, he has assisted other authors in researching material for their books and was involved with the Wide Awake Films Civil War documentaries at Perryville. In 2012 he was commissioned as the writer and historical director for the documentary Sesquicentennial Civil War History of Colbert County Alabama.
