A famous Chinese performance artist and political activist accepts an artist's residency in Los Angeles, where he is to stay with a wealthy Beverly Hills family. The dissident seems strangely reluctant to talk about his past. Set in Los Angeles and Beijing, this title tells the story of a life in flux and a family near breaking point.
Nell Freudenberger has taught English in Bangkok and New Delhi, and currently lives in New York City. Her short stories have been and published in Granta and the New Yorker. Her debut, Lucky Girls was shortlisted for the Orange Award for New Writers.
