Shortlisted for the 1976 Booker Prize, this is a novel about an ordinary woman, in the middle of her life, seized by love for a younger man. The author also wrote "The Colour of Blood", "The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne" and "The Doctor's Wife".Brian Moore, whom Graham Greene called his ‘favourite living novelist’, was born in Belfast in 1921. He emigrated to Canada in 1948, where he became a journalist and adopted Canadian citizenship. He spent some time in New York before settling in California.
