A Dog Called Grk by Josh Lacey
What would you do if you found a dog in the street? Would you return him to his owners? Even if they were a thousand miles away – and in prison? Tim finds a stray dog on the way home from school, but his parents refuse to let it into their house. He knows what he has to do. He catches a plane to Eastern Europe . . . Tim will have to break into a high-security prison, pilot a helicopter and make a nail-biting run for the border – all for a dog called Grk. Shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award.
"Touching, crazy and smart. . If your children are too young for Horowitz's teenaged spy series, this is a good alternative" * The Times *
"By turns lightly comic and cinematically adventurous, the plot zips along nicely with tongue firmly in cheek" * Kirkus *
"A high-octane plot, filled with action, suspense and humour, along with an element of dark political seriousness, combine to create a hugely entertaining read" * Booktrust *
"A really great story for all who long for adventure" * Northern Echo *
"The benefits of being a computer nerd are aptly demonstrated. Tim pilots a helicopter accompanied by GRK (brave, generous and foolish in Stanislavian) to rescue his owners, Max and Natascha, after a coup by evil Colonel Zinfandel" * Financial Times *
