Brig. Gen. Edwin Howard Simmons, USMC (Ret.) served with the Marine Corps from 1942 to 1978, including combat in both World War II and Vietnam. He took part in the Inchon landing, the Chosin Reservoir campaign, and the spring offensive, earning a Silver Star, a Bronze star, and a Purple Heart. He is the co-editor of the large-format book, The Marines, and author of The United States Marines: A History. He was also the director of Marine Corps History and Museums, retiring in 1996. He died in May 2007.
