For emergent readers, this story is in picture book format based around the main character, Ben and his dog Zak. It follows a typical winters day, through a series of adventures. Ben has an advantage over his dog because he can read. Zak gets into all sorts of trouble simply because he cannot read.
Maria Gordon is author of over 25 books. Dogs chew them and cats sit on them, but Maria is proud that her children can read and count them and even helped her to write them. Mike Gordon is an ever-popular and award-winning cartoonist. He has produced over 500 cards for Hallmark and over 300 picture books for various publishers. His talent has been rewarded with numerous awards inlcuding Berol cartoonist of the year (1988) and runner up for the Trento Fra realto e Follia (1990). He was also nominated for the Silver Quill Award (Germany, 1991) and for the Book and Magazine Illustrator of the Year by the National Cartoonists Society (1995).
