Doing Rude Things by David Mcgillivray
Doing Rude Things: The History of the British Sex Film was first published in 1992. It was the first serious study of British soft porn, and it was highly influential. It was filmed by BC TV in 1995 and led to the film seasons, video releases and blogs on the subject that have continued to the present day. The 25th-anniversary edition, to be published in 2017 is vastly expanded and updated with new chapters, design and illustrations. It brings the story of British prudishness and censorship bang up to date.
Since 1964, David McGillivray has worked as a writer, producer, and performer for radio, television, stage, and film. He is best known for a series of exploitation films he wrote in the 1970s, including House of Whipcord, Frightmare, and Satan's Slave. David began writing for comedian Julian Clary in the 1980s while touring with his theatre company Entertainment Machine, a position he has kept to this day. In 1992, he published the first edition of Doing Things, his seminal history of British sex films. It was filmed by the BBC in 1995.
David developed and produced a series of short horror films beginning in 2004 that were ultimately compiled as Worst Fears. He produced the infamous film Trouser Bar in 2015. In 2016, the second edition of Doing Rude Things was released. Little Did You Know, David's autobiography, will be released in 2019.
