Domestic Ducks and Geese by Fred Hams
The keeping of geese and ducks by people as a source of food dates back much earlier, perhaps as far as the first human settlements. This book describes and illustrates most of the domestic breeds that can be seen in Britain including: Aylesbury, Pekin, Rouen, Indian Runner, Khaki Campbell and Call ducks, Embden, Toulouse, Brecon Buff, and others.
Fred Hams was born on a poultry farm in Kent where pedigree strains of popular breeds were bred. Although better known as a Poultry Club judge, Fred Hams qualified as a waterfowl judge in 1978. He first exhibited Aylesbury ducks in 1948, twenty years before he first exhibited poultry. Today he keeps exhibition Rouens and utility Khaki Campbells.
