A biography of Dominic Serres, the dominant British marine painter of the period 1719-1793. A founder member of the Royal Academy and appointed Marine Painter to George III, he played his part in a crucial period of development in British painting and of growing national awareness.
Alan Russett read Modern History at Oxford and maintained an interest in art history during an international business career in the oil industry. He has since completed a university course in the history of art and has been researching, writing and reviewing a number of topics in eighteenth and nineteenth century marine painting and history. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Council Member of the Friends of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. He is the author of George Chambers, also published by Antique Collectors' Club.
