Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (c. 1547-1616) published the first part of DON QUIXOTE in 1605, which brought him immediate popularity. The second part of Don Quixote was published in 1615. He also wrote plays (sixteen of which survive), a pastoral novel, LA GALATEA (1585), and EXEMPLARY STORIES (1613). John Rutherford is a Fellow of The Queen's College, Oxford, where he teaches Spanish, Spanish-American and Galician language and literature.
