Don't Toss Granny in the Begonias by Primrose Arnander
Fortunately, old enemies make the best friends, and Don't Toss Granny highlights the many similarities between the cultures. Witness 'Porter l'eau a la riviere' and 'To carry coals to Newcastle', or 'Quand le chat n'est pas la, les souris dansent' - dancing mice as opposed to their English rat counterparts, who play in the cat's absence.
Primrose Arnander is co-author of the three collections of Arabic proverbs and one of French proverbs - with English equivalents. She is also co-author of Gertrude Jekyll - Essays on the Life of a Working Amateur. The daughter of diplomats, Marie-Helene Claudel Gilly first encountered cross-cultural (mis)communications while growing up in Naples, Tangiers, New York and Brussels, then Sydney. In 1998, she was awarded the Ordre du Merite for her service to the French community in Sydney. She holds an MA in comparative literature from Columbia University in New York and in Theatre Studies from the University of New South Wales. She currently lives in Paris.
