The Dream Vessel by Jeff Bredenberg

An enticing new world awaits--but getting there is half the battle. Destroying a ruthless dictator, it turns out, was easy by comparison. Merqua's revolutionaries find themselves landlocked, and the only hope for civilization lies beyond a wild and perilous ocean. Only one shipyard can produce a vessel that is up to the crossing. But how do you negotiate with--or trust--slavers, powder-snorting pirates, and cannibals? To complicate matters, the Rasta mystic Pec-Pec lurks in the background. The power of a world-changing mission has captured his attention. How will this inscrutable magic man, with allegiance to no one, twist the mission to serve his own dark plans?

Jeff Bredenberg spent the first two decades of his publishing career writing and editing for newspapers in Chicago, Denver, and St. Louis. St. Louis, as well as four other cities. He wrote three science fiction novels, The Dream Compass, The Dream Vessel, and The Man in the Moon Must Die, as well as a number of short stories that appeared in periodicals and anthologies. Bredenberg worked as an independent writer and editor concentrating in how-to and health-related issues throughout the day. More than twenty-five books were written, edited, or contributed to by him.

He was also a regular writer to home-related publications. Bredenberg had numerous appearances in the media, including appearances on The Late Show With David Letterman, The Rachael Ray Show, and the CBS Early Show. Bredenberg, his wife, and their two sons lived in the Philadelphia suburbs. Jeff Bredenberg died of glioblastoma, a kind of brain tumor, on March 2, 2010.

He was fifty-six years old. Visit jeffbredenberg.com and howtocheatbooks.com to learn more about Jeff.
