The Durian Pact by Christopher Howarth

From the halls of Parliament to the depths of South-East Asian jungles, junior British MP Richard Reynolds embarks on a perilous journey that could alter the course of history. As the UK teeters on the brink of war, Richard uncovers a sinister conspiracy that threatens global stability. With dark forces at play both abroad and at home, he alone holds the key to preventing catastrophe. Driven by deeply personal stakes, Richard must navigate a treacherous path where failure is not an option.

"A timely read by one of Westminster's great insiders which vividly conjures up the fears and nightmares of our political class” James Heale, Political Correspondent, The Spectator.

"Westminster veteran Christopher Howarth sets his unparalleled inside knowledge of a Conservative party leadership campaign against an escalating global crisis in this entertaining, imaginative and rip-roaring read." Christopher Hope, Political Editor, GB News.

“Christopher has been at the epicentre of Westminster politics for over 15 years; his book merges fact with fiction. Frighteningly believable.” Sam Coates, Deputy Political Editor, Sky News.

"Christopher Howarth knows his stuff, and from the inside. He uses his first-hand experience to devastating effect." Michael Dobbs, Author of 'The House of Cards.'

"A fast paced cracking good read that immerses the reader in the Machiavellian and murky world of party and Westminster politics (so well understood by the author) entangled with plausible real world events.." Admiral Lord West of Spithead, former Royal Navy Commander and Security Minister.

"A compelling read and so true to life that it is hard to tell where the novel ends and reality begins." Rt. Hon. Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, former Leader of the House of Commons.

"A great read. Takes you straight into the heart of Westminster. Believable and often far too recognisable; keeps you gripped to the end." David Maddox, Political Editor, The Independent.

Christopher Howarth has worked in the corridors of Westminster for over fifteen turbulent years of politics. Working for an influential group of MPs (the European Research Group) and as a special adviser in the Home Office, advising Ministers on defence and foreign policy in and out of Government, working on leadership campaigns and standing for Parliament. Christopher has seen it all. His book inhabits a world between fact and fiction. Christopher studied Medieval History at St Andrews University, Law at York and has spent ten years in the Territorial Army. He lives in London.
