Early Engineering Maths by John O Bird
This book introduces and consolidates basic mathematical principles and promotes awareness of mathematical concepts for students needing a broad basis for further vocational work. It specifically covers the mathematics content of the intermediate and advanced GNVQ in Engineering. Each topic is presented in a way that assumes little previous knowledge. Theory is introduced in each chapter by a brief outline of essential definitions, formulae, laws, procedures and so on, but is kept to a minimum. Problem-solving is used extensively to establish and exemplify the theory. Over 500 worked problems and 900 further questions enhance the understanding of the theory. Wherever possible, the problems mirror practical situations found in engineering and science.John Bird is the former head of Applied Electronics of Highbury College's Faculty of Technology in Portsmouth, United Kingdom. He has recently merged freelance lecturing at the University of Portsmouth with his City & Guilds Examiner duties for Advanced Mathematics. He has written over 125 textbooks on engineering and mathematics, with over one million copies sold globally. He is currently employed as a Senior Training Provider at the Defence School of Marine Engineering, which is part of the Defence College of Technical Training at HMS Sultan in Gosport, Hampshire, United Kingdom.
