Gerald Dawe was educated at the University of Ulster, Coleraine, and the National University of Ireland, Galway. 
A Fellow of Trinity College Dublin, he is Director of the Oscar Wilde Centre for Irish Writing and senior lecturer in the School of English at TCD. 
His seven collections of poetry include The Lundys Letter, Sunday School and Points West. His Selected Poems was published in 2012. He has also published a volume of collected criticism, The Proper Word; a memoir, My Mother-City; and a number of anthologies, including Earth Voices Whispering: An Anthology of Irish War Poetry, 1914–1945.He was the John J. Burns Visiting Professor at Boston College and Charles Heimbold Professor in Irish Studies at Villanova University, Philadelphia.
