East, West, North, South by Geir Lundestad
Providing students with a clear introduction to the history of international relations since the Second World War, this Seventh Edition will be instrumental in helping them put current issues into context.
There is perhaps no other single-authored volume that covers as fully, clearly and succinctly the global post-war history from 1945 to the present, as Geir Lundestad′s East, West, North, SouthIn its incarnation as the expanded and completely revised seventh edition, it is simply a brilliant textbook on the contemporary world. -- Dr Kristina Spohr
Lundestad provides a masterful overview of international politics since 1945 and the debates surrounding the key events. His book is a wonderful resource for both students and scholars of the Cold War and the post-Cold War world. -- Dr Jasna Dragovic Soso
The demand for new editions of the book bears witness to the continuing strength of Cold War orthodoxy about US policy, often dressed up as post-revisionism or linked to Soviet and Eastern bloc archives. The book, has however, always contained flashes of useful and interesting interpretations...The use of online resources especially the World Development Report is particularly important and provides a different tool for general assessments of economic and social developments. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute is used in a similar way for a valuable history of the arms race. -- John Kent
East, West, North, South is a classic overview of international politics since the Second World War, and Geir Lundestad is one of the contemporary historians who are extensively read by peace researchers and international relations scholars. Always solidly grounded in empirical research and detail, his ability to provide sweeping analyses has great scholarly appeal among social scientists.
