Eastern Promise by Peter Stafford-Bow

Eastern Promise is a satirical thriller set in the world of wine, big business and international intrigue.Felix Hart, Head of Wine at the country's largest supermarket chain, knows his burgers from his Bourgogne. He also has a nose for trouble. So when the world's most ruthless luxury goods corporation offers Felix a life-changing sum of money to investigate a billionaire wine fraudster, he suspects there might be a catch. But a wine buyer's salary only goes so far, and Felix's moral compass directs him east, to China's golden, haze-shrouded megacities. There, Felix is faced with his greatest challenge yet; a conspiracy as mind-bending as it is terrifying and which threatens to consume the entire world.Eastern Promise blends the dystopian vision of JG Ballard and Mick Herron with the humour of PG Wodehouse and Chris Brookmyre. The novel is the fourth volume in the successful Felix Hart series, which began with Corkscrew, now a cult classic on both sides of the Atlantic.

In the mid-1970s, Peter Stafford-Bow was born into a drinking household in the north of England. He dropped out of university to seek a career in booze as a precocious, self-taught imbiber. He became a supermarket buyer after managing numerous low-end London wine merchants, a position that sparked his lifelong passion for food, other people's hospitality, and general frolicking. Stafford-Bow came to the UK to pursue a literary career after living in East Asia and South Africa. Corkscrew, Brut Force, and Firing Blancs are his three best-selling novels. With his beer executive girlfriend, an huge wine collection, and his pet ferrets, Brett and Corky, he lives in London.
