Robert Slavin is the head of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Research and Reform in Education, the director of the University of York's Centre for Effective Education, and the chairman of the Success for All Foundation. His Ph.D. was awarded to him. He received his Ph.D. in Social Relations from Johns Hopkins in 1975 and has written over 200 papers and book chapters on issues like cooperative learning, ability grouping, school and classroom structure, desegregation, mainstreaming, research evaluation, and evidence-based reform since then. Cooperative Learning, School and Classroom Organization, Effective Programs for Kids at Risk, Avoiding Early School Failure, Show Me the Evidence: Proven and Promising Programs for America's Schools, Two Million Children: Achievement for All, Effective Programs for Hispanic Students, and Educational Research in the Age of Accountability are just a few of Dr. Slavin's books. The Raymond Cattell Early Career Prize for Programmatic Research was given to Dr. Slavin by the American Educational Research Association in 1985.

He was awarded the Palmer O. in 1988. The Johnson Prize is given to the finest work published in an AERA journal. In 1994, he was honored with the Charles A. In 1998, he earned the Education Commission of the States' James Bryant Conant Award, and in 2000, he received the Council of Chief State School Executives' Outstanding Services Award.

The Palmer O was bestowed upon him once more. In 2008, he won the Johnson Award for the finest article in an AERA journal, and in 2009, he won the AERA Review of Research Award.
