Craig Hill's love of the outdoors began as a boy, when his father yanked him away from the television and brought him to explore Washington's mountains, forests, and beaches. He turned down an offer to go graduate school at the University of Missouri after studying writing at Washington State University and instead took a job as a sports reporter. Even though he covered some of the most important sporting events, he couldn't get away from his urge to be in the mountains. So, in 2004, he put on his old hiking boots, walked away from a bright profession, and went to work for The News Tribune in Tacoma as an outdoor reporter. He now has a solid reputation in Washington's outdoor scene.

In 2011, he was recognized by the National Park Service for his efforts to Mount Rainier National Park. Craig lives in Puyallup, Washington, and is the outdoor sports chairman for the Tacoma-Pierce County Sport Hall of Fame.
