He has received the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism, Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Arts poetry scholarships, and the city of Somerville's Poet Laureateship. His poems have appeared in publications such as the New Yorker, New Republic, and Atlantic, as well as the Pushcart Prize, The Best American Poetry, and The Best of the Best American Poetry. Tiny Kisses, Cairo Traffic, and Goodnight, Gracie, all published by the University of Chicago Press, are among his poetry collections.
