EMBROIDERED BOXES by Jane Lemon
This classic text by one of the country's leading embroiderers is still the only practical book to set down comprehensively the specialist techniques of embroidered box-making. This reprint is a must for all those beginning to make embroidered boxes or those who wish to extend their repertoire. Jane Lemon provides step-by-step instructions for constructing boxes from fabric-covered card, always bearing in mind the requirements of the embroidery to be worked on them. There are also chapters on making bags and purses, cushions, curtains, blinds and book covers, which can be enhanced with applique, quilting, canvas-work and many other forms of embroidery. The techniques described will help all embroiderers to achieve a really professional finish for their practical work.
Jane Lemon worked in theatre, and then for eight years as a costume designer for television. She is a member of the Practical Study Group of the Embroiderers' Guild, an experienced teacher and lecturer on embroidery and a founder member of the Sarum Group, formed in 1978 to design and work ecclesiastical embroidery. Their work for Salisbury Cathedral is particularly well known. She is the author of a number of embroidery books, including Metal Thread Embroidery by Batsford.
