Emilio Ambasz by Fulvio Irace

Emilio Ambasz reinvents the universe by creating urban complexes that rise like volcanoes of glass, works of architecture set in natural landscapes and gardens that turn into artificial mechanisms of the city, in a range of spatial and urbanistic proposals of absolute originality.
The monograph documents the creative world of this Argentine-born American-based architect-designer from the crystalline complex of the San Antonio Botanical Center in Texas (1982) to the transparent container (Aqua Dove Mineral Water Bottle, 1987) and the opaque and granite office tower in Phoenix (1998), and focuses on his more recent works.
Emilio Ambasz, born in 1943 in Argentina, studied at Princeton University. He served as Curator of Design at The Museum of Modern Art in New York (1970--76), where he directed and installed numerous influential exhibits on architecture and industrial design. He is the recipient of several awards for excellence in architecture and design.
Fulvio Irace is Professor of History of Contemporary Architecture at Milan Polytechnic. He has contributed to architectural magazines such as The Architectural Review, Lotus and Ottagono. He is architectural critic of the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.
