ALISON CAWSEY is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Heriot-Watt University. Her current research interests include Artificial Intelligence and Adaptive Hypermedia. She is the author of The Essence of Artificial Intelligence (Prentice Hall), and Explanation and Interaction (MIT Press).

RICK DEWAR is a Lecturer in Computer Science at Heriot-Watt University. His current research interests include Software Engineering and Knowledge Management. Previous roles have included being a Rolls Royce engineer, a university researcher, and a lecturer in information management at Napier University.
