The University of Rochester presented Dr. Hansen with the first annual Presidential Diversity Award in celebration of his 24 years of commitment and dedication to increasing the recruitment, retention, and graduation of medical school candidates from various backgrounds. Dr. Hansen studies dopaminergic systems in the peripheral and central nervous systems, as well as neural plasticity and inflammation. He is the recipient of a National Institutes of Health Research Career Development Grant, as well as various teaching accolades, including the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. The AAMC presents the Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award to nationally outstanding medical educators each year.
Professor Hansen has approximately 110 research papers, book chapters, and books to his credit. He was the primary consulting editor of Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy (2-7th editions) and co-editor of the journal Clinical Anatomy. In addition to this coloring book, he continues to write Netter's Anatomy Flash Cards and Netter's Clinical Anatomy.
