The Essential Guide to Professional Horse Care by Alison Pocklington

Alison Pocklington, an award-winning groom, shows how to care for horses in the field, stable, in transit and at competitions for optimum health, efficiency and fitness. This book covers grooming, trimming, show turnout, clipping, veterinary and health care including teeth, worming, vaccination, records and shoeing. Different types of saddlery and tack are covered in some detail with advice both about their specific uses and their care. There are chapters on the groom's role at major events that will be of benefit to both the professional groom and to the one horse owner. Based on her experience at the UK's leading riding school, training centre and competition yard, Alison's book is packed with essential information and common-sense advice. The Essential Guide to Professional Horse Care is an indispensable book for anyone who cares for horses and ponies.
Alison Pocklington has been involved with horses and ponies since she was ten years old. When she left school she went to The Yorkshire Riding Centre to train for her BHS qualifications. She became Christopher Bartle's competition groom, which has meant that she has groomed at top-level eventing and dressage competitions around the world. She competes herself, producing young horses up to two-star level. Recently she has also started to train and ride point-to-pointers. Alison has spent time riding and teaching in Australia and Jamaica and she trains students for competition and examinations at The Yorkshire Riding Centre. In 2000 she was voted Horse & Hound groom of the year.
