Joseph A.DeVito graduated from Hunter College with a BA in 1960, Temple University with an MA in 1962, and the University of Illinois with a PhD in 1964. He taught at Hunter College in the Bronx (later Lehman College) after getting his PhD. He has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses, though he has primarily focused on beginning courses at the undergraduate level. Quarterly Journal of Speech, Communication Monographs, Communication Education, Communication Quarterly, Journal of Communication, and Etc: A Review of General Semantics are among the journals on which he has served on the editorial boards.
