Ingrid Mossinger studied art history, archaeology, ethnology and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main. She has worked for the Museum Wiesbaden, the Frankfurter Kunstverein and the Sydney Biennales of 1990 and 1992/93. She directed Art Frankfurt and the Kunstverein Ludwig. She has been Director of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz since 1996. In 2005 she was appointed Director General of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, which includes the Museum am Theaterplatz, the Carlfriedrich Claus Archive, the Henry van de Velde Museum in the Villa Esche, the Museum Gunzenhauser and the Schloabergmuseum. In 2006 she was appointed Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur, in 2007 she received the Order of Merit of the BRD and in 2010 the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog. She was presented with the Order of Merit of the Free State of Saxony in 2014, in 2015 and the Faculty of Philosophy of the Technische Universitat Chemnitz awarded her an Honorary Doctorate. She has expanded the collection of the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz by an additional 6,500 works.
