In 1963, Ruqaiyyah Waris Maqsood graduated with honors from the University of Hull with a degree in Christian Theology. She went on to work as a writer and as the Head of Religious Studies at a number of state schools before retiring in 1996. She became a Muslim in 1986 and now talks and writes about the religion.
