Extraordinary Powers by Joseph Finder
For Ben Ellisnon, his job with a prestigious law firm is a safe haven from the espionage world that almost killed him. But when the director of the CIA is killed, Ben's old employers want him back. Ben is deceived into taking part in a top-secret experiment that leaves him able to read people's thoughts. Not only must he track down the director's killers, but there is another prize at stake...a multi-million dollar fortune in gold, spirited out of Russia in the last days of the Soviet Union.
In addition to fiction, Finder continues to write extensively on espionage and international affairs relations for THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE WASHINGTON POST
