An Eye for Beauty by Evelyn Lauder
A sequel to The Seasons Observed, Evelyn Lauder's first book of photographs, this new book presents a dazzling new selection of full-color images made by the author during her travels throughout the world. From brilliant sunsets over the Pacific, to intimate close-ups of flowers, faces and abstract patterns formed by light on water or ice, Lauder demonstrates a remarkable ability to capture the beauty in the everyday world. The first book was arranged according to the seasons; this one will have a more straightforward design, organized by the photographer's approach to her subjects (sky, natural spectacles, close-ups of abstract patterns, landscapes). The implicit themes of Lauder's photographs - optimism and nature's capacity for healing and renewal - are also those of her intense dedication to breast cancer research, and all royalties from the sale of this book will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Evelyn Lauder is a senior corporate vice president of Estee Lauder Inc., a well-known philanthropist, and a founder of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Her photographs have been exhibited widely through the United States and are in the collections of such distinguished museums as the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum in New York. Amy Spindler is Fashion Editor of The New York Times.
