The Eyes of the Heart by Dennis Lennon
Our ability to look, to listen and to respond in speech (and the magical interplay of the three) constitutes our humanity. People in the past honoured the senses by calling them 'the Talismans of the Lord', each one gifted to take part in the mystery of creation: ears to hear God's wonders, eyes to see his signs, tongue to tell his praise. The chief impediment to religion in this age, Dennis Lennon believes, is that no one ever looks at anything at all - not so as to contemplate it in depth, to grasp and to enter what it is to be that particular thing. This book helps us explore what it means to please God by cultivating such a quality of looking, listening and speaking.
After missionary service in South Thailand, Dennis Lennon ministered in Cambridge and Edinburgh. From St Thomas Episcopal Church in Edinburgh, notable for its church planting experiments, he moved to Sheffield to become Diocesan Adviser in Evangelism. One of Scripture Union's most popular and well-regarded Bible notes writers, he is the author of several books including Through the Bible in a Year: A spiritual journal (1997) and Weak Enough for God to Use (1999). He now lives in Rutland.
