David Davies grew up in London obsessed by football. As an 18 year old, he went to all the World Cup 1966 matches including the final. He became a journalist covering sport and current affairs on BBC TV. In 1994 he joined the FA where he eventually became the Executive Director. He resigned from the FA in 2006, the only senior FA member in modern times to leave at a moment of his own choosing. He continues to work promoting the national game and as a sports and media consultant.
