Jim Haynes is the director of research, a senior consultant, and a member of the QuickSilver Interactive Group, Inc. Board of Directors. of the city of Dallas, Texas He also teaches public relations writing as an adjunct professor at UNT. He is a Certified Records Manager and an Accredited in Public Relations (APR) member of the Public Relations Society of America's College of Fellows. He was a member of the National Board of Directors of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the Universal Accreditation Board, which oversees accreditation for PRSA and eight other participating organizations.

He taught public relations in the University of North Texas, Texas State University-San Marcos, Southern Methodist University, and Texas Christian University. He was also an assistant dean in the Faculty of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin. In the United States, Canada, England, and Norway, he has spoken at professional conferences and led seminars and workshops. He was a co-founder of the Public Relations Foundation of Texas and served as its chairman, as well as president of the Texas Public Relations Association (TPRA) and the North Texas (now Dallas) Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). He has garnered multiple accolades from public relations organizations at the national, state, and local levels, including lifetime membership in TPRA.

He has provided consulting services to large enterprises across the United States, as well as associations, municipalities, state agencies, and non-profit organizations in the United States, Canada, Norway, and Sweden, through Jim Haynes Consulting. He spent 20 years with the Norwegian Institute of Journalism, where he coordinated a two-week short course at The University of Texas at Austin for Norwegian newspaper editors.
