S. in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (1964) and an M.S. in Total Quality Management from Anna Maria College (1998) - all in Worcester. After college, he worked as an engineer in the paper industry for five years, then he worked for twenty-seven years as an engineer and manager at the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham, Massachusetts. Upon leaving Polaroid in 1996, he managed the Custom Coating and Laminating plant in Worcester for the Furon Corporation for three years.
