Falstaff by Robert Nye
Expansive, sprawling, unruly and oversized - like his stomach and everything about him - the memoirs of the most beloved comic figure in the history of literature take the reader into the world of a character so audacious that, apparently, even the Bard could not do him justice.
'Stunning.. The rumbustious centrifugal energy displayed throughout makes most contemporary novels seem insipid.' The Sunday Times 'Mr Nye writes like Rabelais reborn. The conception is brilliant, the execution full of panache and invention.' Kenneth Tynan 'It is a tribute to Nye's achievement that we shall not be able to meet the great original again without thinking of this other Fallestelf or Farstalff' Anthony Burgess, The Guardian
Robert Nye was born in London in 1939. He is the award-winning author of Merlin, The Memoirs of Lord Byron and The Late Mr Shakespeare (also available from A&B). A poet, journalist and critic, he now lives near Cork in Ireland.
