Fannie Flagg's career began in fifth grade, when she wrote, directed, and starred in her first play, The Whoopee Girls, and she hasn't looked back since. She subsequently went on to make a name for herself as a writer and actress in television, cinema, and theater. Flagg's screenplay for Fried Green Tomatoes was nominated for an Academy Award and a Writers Guild of America Award, as well as winning the prestigious Scripter Award for outstanding screenplay of the year.
