The Father by Christopher Hampton

The Father, in this English translation by Christopher Hampton, was commissioned by the Ustinov Studio, Theatre Royal, Bath and premiered in October 2014. The production transferred to the Tricycle Theatre, London and subsequently to Wyndham's Theatre in the West End. Florian Zeller's The Father was awarded the Moliere Award for Best Play and the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Actor.

Florian Zeller is a playwright and novelist from France. When he was twenty-two years old, he penned his first novel, Artificial Snow. Fascination of Evil, his third novel, made him a household figure in French. The book, which examines the relationship between the West and Islam, sparked some debate. It was chosen as a finalist for the Prix Goncourt.

His black comedy, The Father, has been one of the most successful shows in recent years, playing to rapturous five-star reviews in London's West End and winning numerous accolades and nominations in Paris, London, and New York. He is based in Paris.
