Fire! by Colin Dann
The animals of Farthing Wood face the first major hazard in their flight from the destruction of their old home. Fire surrounds the animals and cuts off Toad who is the only one who knows the route to their new home. The author also wrote "In the Grip of Winter" and "The Siege of White Deer Park".Colin Dann was born in 1943 in Richmond, Surrey. Before gaining a career in publishing at William Collins in London, he worked for a huge textile company. At this time, he published his debut book, THE ANIMALS OF FARTHING WOOD, which was an instant hit, receiving the Arts Council of Great Britain's National Book Award for Children's Literature and being translated into sixteen languages. Six sequels and a prologue followed, and in 1992, BBC television broadcasted a major animation series based on the Farthing Wood story. He and his wife live in a house on the Sussex/Kent boundary.
