Yokov Bok, a carpenter, is blamed, arrested and imprisoned without indictment.Bernard Malamud (1914-86) was a novelist who received the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for The Fixer, as well as the National Book Award for The Magic Barrel. He was born in Brooklyn and spent many years teaching at Bennington College in Vermont.
