A madcap, modern-yet-mythological adventure. Aries, the ghost of the ram of Golden Fleece fame, remains furious at the loss of his beautiful coat - stolen by Jason and the Argonauts centuries ago. Aries is desperate to leave the Greek Underworld so he can find his beloved fleece, and when he gets a chance to return to Earth, he takes his best friend Alex, the Underworld zookeeper, along for the ride. They soon discover the Golden Fleece is in the clutches of the evil immortal sorceress Medea - now a world-famous fashion designer. With the help of Rose, a twelve-year-old human girl, Aries and Alex must save the world from Medea's wicked plans . . . and save Aries from an eternity of being bald.

Athena challenges the crew of the Argo, who are now in the underworld, for one of them to go on a quest in the over-world, however everyone is astounded when Aries the ram of the golden fleece wins the challenge and together with his friend Alex (a young but dead Athenian) heads off to try and find his fleece which has not been seen for millenniaThe gateway is part of the Parthenon, but unfortunately for our heroes it is no longer in Athens, no, they find themselves in the middle of the British Museum in modern London. Then the fun begins.

This is a great book with a tremendous sense of humour. The author talks directly to the audience, cracking jokes, making comments and generally involving the audience in the story. It races along at high speed and introduces us to a wide range of appealing and some very unappealing characters. One of the great things about this book is the unlikely hero Aries, after all he is a bald, fat and very self opinionated ram, but he does come through in the end. This is definitely a book for those who love their action with a bit of history, so younger readers of Percy Jackson as well as those who enjoyed Corydon and the Pig Scrolls will find plenty to keep them reading.

Julia Wills was born in Stafford and moved to Warwickshire via Australia and Oxford, which is not the straightest route. Born in January, she is a Capricorn - the zodiac goat with horns as curly as Aries'. Unlike Aries, though, she is not bald with a wobbly bottom. Well, not quite! Julia has worked for a big oil company, looking after their photo library; for a big sausage maker, helping decide which colour packets their sausages looked best in; and at a village primary school, where she discovered that what children want most from a book is a good giggle. As 'Miss Wills', her favourite lesson to teach was history, since it was there that she and the children first discovered the Ancient Greeks and their fabulous monsters.
