Follow the Lamb by Horatius Bonar

Horatius Bonar anticipates many of the questions that arise in the early months of discipleship and provides the answers. This short book was written over 100 years ago but deals with issues that still concern new believers today. The principles of Christian living do not change and so Bonar's advice is of permanent value. Horatius Bonar is best known today as a hymn writer. Many of his hymns are still used in worship. He was also an effective evangelist and a sensitive pastor. This experience is obvious throughout the book. Using this book is an ideal way of providing firm footholds for new Christian's first steps.

"This book was written to help new Christians in the early nineteenth century, although that is not shown clearly in the introductionIt has many valuable lessons to teach, with Scripture references in abundance. It is very much of its time, in that, the 'don'ts' outweigh the 'dos'. How a modern day Christian would cope with that, I would question. Again, the language is somewhat archaic and outmoded. The contrast of this compared with, say, The Message is extreme. Having said all that, the subject matter needs to be heard as the pendulum seems to have swung to some superficiality. Often the gospel is watered down to accommodate society. Examples of chapter headings are; 'Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus', 'Deal honestly with yourself', 'Be aware of one-sided truth', 'Be of good cheer'."
