Georgia Heard continues to contribute a poet's ear and a teacher's know-how to every area of writing instruction as a writer, poet, and founding member of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. Heart Maps, her newest book, contains 20 multi-genre heart maps to assist students in writing with purpose and authenticity. Georgia, a pioneer in the use of heart maps to examine what we all store inside: feelings, passions, weaknesses, and wonderings, has spent decades helping students into more meaningful writing experiences. Georgia is the author of several books, including The Revision Toolbox, Second Edition, Discovering the Heart of Nonfiction, and Writing Toward Home, as well as Awakening the Heart, which was named one of the 12 Books Every Teacher Should Read by Instructor Magazine.

She is also the coauthor of Climb Inside a Poem, a curricular resource that focuses on how reading and producing poetry can assist teachers enhance young kids' language and literacy over the course of the year. Georgia worked as a Senior Staff Development in New York City schools for seven years at the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. She is now touring the United States. as a consultant, visiting author, and keynote speaker in school systems and conferences all over the world.

Georgia is the coauthor of the professional titles Poetry Lessons to Meet the Common Core Standards and A Space for Wonder, as well as children's fiction such as Falling Down the Page: A Book of List Poems, in addition to her Heinemann professional publications.
