As a child, Donald MacIntosh's heroine was Mary Kingsley, a nineteenth century traveller who successfully took on the forbidding forests and swamps of West Africa. Donald MacIntosh was born in 1927 and is the eldest son of a Perthshire woodcutter and a mother from the Isle of Mull. For 30 years he worked in the rainforests of West Africa. He contributes widely to national magazines such as The Oldie.
