This book comprises of four self-contained studies of the founders of the world's religious traditions: the Buddha, Confucius, Jesus and Muhammad. They were previously written for the Past Masters series, but by reprinting them in one volume, the connections between the traditions are seen. Michael Carrithers is Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of Durham and author of The Forest Monks of Sri Lanka.
Raymond Dawson is Lecturer in Chinese at the University of Oxford. He is the author of several books, including The Chinese Experience and Imperial China, and editor of The Legacy of China.
Humphrey Carpenter is the author of biographies of Auden and Tolkien and co-author of The Oxford Companion to Children's Literature.
Michael Cook is Professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University. His other books include Population Pressure in Rural Anatolia 1450-1600 and Early Muslim Dogma: A Source-Critical Study.
