FreeBSD Unleashed by Michael Urban

All he wanted to do was antagonize people online. The Troll lived to play the underdog and belittle people on the Boards. In the not-too-distant future, there wasn't much else to do. After the world was taken over by a small group of programmers who used an advanced piece of cellular technology called Psi, which was embedded in the heads of its users, the world changed drastically. Two-thirds of the population died in the takeover, which was led by a man who calls himself The Moderator. The rest of the world is forced to follow his rules or be killed with the push of a button. Only a handful of people can't be harmed by Psi. Led by a man called The Surfer, they are the only resistance left who dedicated their lives to ending Psi and restoring the world to what it was. When The Surfer is caught, the revolution is nearly gone, until in his place, a randomly selected citizen is chosen for an impossible task that can potentially deactivate Psi forever. The unlikely candidate: The Troll, a cyber-trouble-maker who lives to pick fights from the safety of his computer. With no choice but to accept the challenge, The Troll is faced with an impossible journey to help a revolution that he doesn't believe in, and in the process, find something truly worth fighting for.
Michael Urban is a biology student at the University of Minnesota. He has been working with various forms of Unix-like operating systems for several years including FreeBSD, Linux, and Solaris. Michael has worked as a technical analyst, and is now a systems administrator and webmaster for the Lion Research Center. He also does software development for them, including the development of Web-enabled database applications. When he is not studying for exams, or writing new Perl or Java code, he can usually be found immersed in research material on African lions. Brian Tiemann has been a constant user of FreeBSD since his student days at Caltech, where he used it to build a movie fan Web site that has continued to grow and sustain more and more load until the present day. Born in Ukiah, California, Brian has remained in the state all his life; he currently lives in San Jose and works in the networking appliance field. Aside from FreeBSD, his other interests include Macintoshes, motorcycles, and animation.
