From Bird Mountain by Lyle Fugleberg

His name is Sigurth, the son of a sturdy farmer whose farm is on the slope of a plateau called BIRD MOUNTAIN. Although his namesake is Sigurd, the mighty warrior of the mythical Volsungs, who slew the dragon and spoke to birds, his early years are marked by a numbing tragedy which shapes him his own way.

Through a series of episodes, many of which have historical basis around the year 1000, in a time that's been called the Viking Age for all the wrong reasons, Sigurth grows to manhood in a manner that challenges the mythology. He and his cousin Sveyin, are inseparable friends from childhood, together with a cast of memorable characters, where many of them are also historical, laugh, love and strive across the dimensions of the north, and in so doing come close to changing the world for all time.

Lyle Fugleberg, the founder of an award-winning Architectural Firm, retired in 2008 after 45 years of practice. Stillactive with sports and community service, he has also taken to write in fictional form about special issues and interests. This latest is prompted by not only his love for history, but also that for his country which the winds of change in American politics are jeopardizing. He and his wife of sixty-four years divide their time between Florida and Western North Carolina.
