Duty and A Passion for Leadership are both written by ROBERT M.GATES. He served as Secretary of Defense under Presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush. Barack Obama and George W. Bush. Before being named head of the CIA, he served in the United States Air Force and worked for the CIA. He served eight presidents of both political parties as a member of the National Security Council staff in four administrations.

From 2002 to 2006, he served as president of Texas A&M University, and he is now chancellor of the College of William & Mary. From 2014 to 2016, he served as national president of the Boy Scouts of America, and he has served on multiple business boards of directors. He was named chairman of the Eisenhower Fellowships in 2018. He resides in the state of Washington.
