Fuelin' Around by J K Kelly
A Brief History of Comic Book Movies traces the meteoric rise of the hybrid art form of the comic book film. These films trace their origins back to the early 1940s, when the first Batman and Superman serials were made. The serials, and later television shows in the 1950s and 60s, were for the most part designed for children. But today, with the continuing rise of Comic-Con, they seem to be more a part of the mainstream than ever, appealing to adults as well as younger fans. This book examines comic book movies from the past and present, exploring how these films shaped American culture from the post-World War I era to the present day, and how they adapted to the changing tastes and mores of succeeding generations.Wheeler Winston Dixon is the James Ryan Professor of Film Studies, Coordinator of the Film Studies Program, and Professor of English at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Richard Graham is an associate professor and Media Services Librarian at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA, and a nationally recognized authority on comic books, graphic novels, and comic book movies.
Kelly, J. K.: - Born in Philadelphia and nicknamed JK by his friends, the author got his first writing credit in grade school when Highlights Magazine published his Letter to the Editor. While studying Law Enforcement and Journalism at Penn State's main campus, JK put his passion for photography to work. He'd travel to auto races on weekends and sold his action and feature photos to magazines. It seemed only natural to write the stories to go with them and before long J.K. had a monthly column in an industry magazine and writing credits in Car Craft and in Super Stock & Drag Illustrated. From there he moved to Charlotte to work with driver Darrell Waltrip as the Public Relations Director for the Gatorade 88 NASCAR team. He then worked for 28 years at VP Racing Fuels as their Regional Manager for Europe and an extensive part of North America. In 2015 he took an early retirement to pursue his growing family and his writing. FOUND IN TIME is his debut novel and the sequel is in the works. He's also putting the finishing touches on an intriguing, action packed work of non-fiction set in the fast paced world of international motorsport. Kelly is married with three adult children and two grandchildren. He loves travel, coffee, beer, a great steak, and a book he can't put down. Favorite cities are Philly, Jackson Hole, Quebec, and Rome. His favorite movies are the original True Grit and Cinderella Man. Favorite television programs are The West Wing and Survivor.
